What is Optifine?
OptiFine is a mod that improves your Minecraft’s overall performance by increasing FPS and decreasing lag. It allows you to play Minecraft in more graphic intensive ways, like with shaders, various visual enhancements, etc. It also allows you to change various settings in game, like the game’s FPS, the game’s brightness/gamma, and more. It’s also used by many people to make their Minecraft look like the Minecraft from back in the day.
How to Install Optifine on Windows
Before you can start downloading the OptiFine for Minecraft mod, you’ll need to make sure you have a valid version of Java installed on your computer. Since Minecraft is written in Java, you can’t run Minecraft without it! If you already have Java installed on your computer, you can jump straight to the next section. If not, you’ll need to grab a copy of Java first.

You can download Java from here. Make sure to select the “Download JDK” option from the drop-down menu. Once you’ve downloaded the installer file, open it up and follow the instructions to install it. Once Java has been installed, you can go ahead and head over to the official OptiFine website. Once you’ve got the link, you can open it in your browser and click on the “Download” button on the page. The file will download to your computer. You can go ahead and open it up, and then click on the “Install” button.
The installer should then guide you through the rest of the installation process. Once it’s done, you can go ahead and launch your copy of Minecraft and enjoy the performance boost!
